Medicare Symbols.png

Medicare is a federal health insurance program. It covers people 65 or older, and some younger people with disabilities or other special situations.

Original Medicare is a federal health insurance program made up of Part A and Part B.

If you already receive Social Security you’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B

If you need to enroll, you can choose one of these three easy steps:

1

Call Social Security Administration for an appointment at 1-800-772-1213 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. TTY users call 1-800-325-0778

2

Apply online at the official website: www.ssa.gov/medicareonly

3

Visit your local Social Security office in person

You Have Seven Months to Enroll in Medicare

You have an Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday. It lasts for 7 months, starting 3 months before you turn 65, and ending 3 months after the month you turn 65

Part A

Hospital Insurance

Part of the Original Medicare, Part A covers hospital visits, skilled nursing care, home health care, and hospice care. For most, Medicare Part A comes at no additional cost.

Part B

Medical Insurance

The second half of Original Medicare, Part B, covers doctor visits, preventive services, diagnostic testing, and durable medical equipment (DME).

Part C

Medicare Advantage Plan

Simplify your Medicare coverage. A Medicare Advantage plan combines hospital, and medical. Additionally, it may provide prescription drug coverage. These compact plans may also include other benefits not offered through original Medicare.

Part D
